I Love Fresh Direct!

Hello all! It has been a very long time since I posted. I have been very busy with an estate cleaning, moving, settling in a new place and having a new job. I have been cooking new things but just haven't have the time and energy to post them. I absolutely miss my old neighborhood because of the Supermarket. The selection of meat and vegetables were amazing and very fresh. This new supermarket I am now currently next to is just sad! Then why did I move? I absolutely love my new spacious space and the commute is 100 times better than my old commute.

I still need to eat and correctly too! The new supermarket has nothing super in it. I don't think a lot of people here eat much fruits and vegetables. The meat selection is just scary. Since fruits and vegetables are not being bought, they just sit there. They sit there for so long that they start to rot. The chicken are abnormally large and you can see the fat all over it. The very small selection of fish is expensive and greyish. The beef is just OK. So what should I do?

This is where Fresh Direct comes and save my days. I order from Fresh Direct about once a month. People always think that they are so expensive but it is not if you go for the sale.  For about $80, I got two big boxes of incredibly fresh produce!

This is what was in the boxes:

- 4 mangoes
- 2 clear containers of organic Bok Choi
- 1 3 lb watermelon
- 1/2 gallon milk
- 4 baby eggplants
- 4 heads of organic garlic
- 3 ears of bi-color corn
- 4 peaches
- 1 chocolate milk
- 4 Fuji apples
- 1 lb organic carrots
- 12 oz organic cherry tomatoes
- Frozen peas
- 4 filets salmon
- 1 lb beef stew
- 1 lb ground beef
- 2 Cornish hens

I love opening the boxes and start cooking! I bought most of the produce on sale so it is cheaper then going to the store near home. Plus I did not have to carry all of those things myself! I always tip the guy delivering because my boxes are always so heavy. I once bought the big 9 lbs watermelon for $4.99 (among many other things) and the delivery guy never complain about the weight!

Calbee Seaweed & Salt Potatoes Chips

I was at a Japanese market called Sunrise Mart looking for some junk food.  I came across these seaweeds flavored potatoes chips.  If you like to munch on seaweed, then you would like this potato chips.  The flavor of seaweed first hit your tongue and it was quite surprising. I will definitely get this again when I stop by.

Fage Greek Yogurt

This yogurt was on sale and decided to try some.  I never had Greek yogurt and these were really popular.  The first taste was not pleasant because I did not expect it to taste sour.  Andrew Zimmern always said to try things more than once.  So I decided to keep on eating it, I added the fruits and as I started eating more of it, I fell in love withe it.  It has the consistency of sour cream and tasted like mild cream cheese. It kept me full for about 1 hour and it is only 140 calories.  This may seem like very little fruits but it is definitely enough, any more would make it too sweet.  I already tried the peach and strawberry.

Cape Cod Potato Chips

I love these potato chips, they are crunchy and not greasy like the others.  I also tried the Salt and Vinegar and that was great too.  I use to love the Lay's Salt and Vinegar chips but they are greasy and too sour.  The Cape Cod brand was not greasy nor too sour.

Peter Luger Steak House Sauce

I just do not get the appeal of A1 Steak Sauce.  The sauce that I like is from Peter Luger, an infamous steak house in NYC that I have yet to visit this place.  When I do, I will definitely take pictures and post about it.  For now, all I have is the Peter Luger's steak sauce.  I like this sauce because it is garlicky and very tasty.

Bonne Maman Preserves

I came across Bonne Maman at my local supermarket.  It did cost more than what I usually get but I really had to try the Wild Blueberry flavor.  It was the best preserves I have ever tasted.  I was in the mood for apricot flavor and decided to try it too.  It was really good but I still like the blueberry the best.  They both have fruits in both preserves.  The blueberry had whole blueberries in them and the apricots had chunks of apricots in it.  I also tried the raspberry flavor, only because I was in a rush and half read the label thinking it was blueberry.  I was not too crazy about the raspberry because I was never that crazy about raspberry.  It has too many seeds and so did this preserve.

Bonne Maman was on sale so I decided to try other flavors.  I bought cherry and marmalade.  I like the sweet tartness of the cherry but I had to give the marmalade to my dad because it was way too bitter! As you can see on the toast, the Cherry Preserves has tons of cherries in them.  I love this line of preserves!

Strawberry Marshmallow

On a recent trip to Wholefoods Supermarket, something caught my eyes and stop me in my tracks of finding the perfect sweets.  STRAWBERRY MARSHMALLOW! I was willing to pay up to $3 for a small package of it but the price was just ungodly! It was $6.99  for 6 small cubes of marshmallow so I had to leave my first strawberry marshmallow experience behind.  A couple of month later I saw that Jet Puffed made strawberry flavor marshmallows and I must say I was overexcited over it.  I love the flavor, it does taste like strawberry!
